Thermography is one of the most effective techniques for to detection of faults in mechanical systems.

A faulty bearing, excessive friction in a belt drive, flow reduction in a cooling system, insulation defects, erosion of pipe wall thickness and a multitude of other faults in mechanical systems, will all result in abnormal thermal signatures which can be detected with an IR camera.
